Maple Leafs Frederik Andersen Looking To Sign with Hurricanes [Report]
After all the mystery, it looks as if long-time Toronto Maple Leafs starting goalie will be signing with the Carolina Hurricanes. Here’s why.
Well, we finally have a clue about where former Toronto Maple Leafs’ starter Frederik Andersen is expected to sign. And, that’s with the Carolina Hurricanes. At least, that’s what The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun is reporting.

Carolina Makes Sense for Andersen
Although things were pretty quiet on the Andersen front, and both Andersen’s agent Claude Lemieux and the Maple Leafs’ general manager Kyle Dubas were saying the right words, the signs had been there for quite a while that Andersen was likely on his way out of town. Sadly, too, for the long-time Maple Leafs starter, he might have lost his job to an injury.
That injury allowed former back Jack Campbell to rise to the surface and have a record-setting start to the 2020-21 season. Even toward the end of the year, there was some mystery about whether Andersen was injured just before the playoffs or not. When he didn’t suit up for the Maple Leafs during the playoffs, the writing was on the wall.
Right now, the Hurricanes have three free-agent goalies on their roster [Jonathan Bernier, Petr Mrazek, and James Reimer], so it seems they are filling their need in goal by signing Andersen, who’s more than capable of being a strong starting goalie – or, at least he was in the past.
No doubt, the Hurricanes believe he’ll be an upgrade on what they could put in net had last season.
