Rangers Acquire Justin Braun from Flyers for 2023 3rd-Round Pick
Justin Braun has been traded by the Philadelphia Flyers to the New York Rangers for a 2023 third-round pick.
As per Pierre LeBrun of TSN, the New York Rangers have dipped their toes into the NHL Trade Deadline market and added defenseman Justin Braun from the Philadelphia Flyers. LeBrun writes, “Pending the official trade call, but Rangers get Justin Braun from the Flyers in exchange for a 3rd RD pick in ’23.”

Braun, 35, is in year two of a contract that pays him $1.8 million. He is a pending UFA at the end of the season. Braun was a rental many teams were looking at and he’ll likely slot in on the third pairing for the Rangers. It was rumored he wanted a chance to win and the Flyers are certainly giving him that by trading him to the Rangers.
Braun has16 points in 61 games this season. He is a veteran shut-down defender and a blueliner who can kill penalties. He had strong defensive numbers in the second pair on one of the league’s worst defensive teams in the Flyers.
Dan Rosen of NHL.com writes, “If/when Justin Braun to the Rangers becomes official, he’s a right-handed D who will push Braden Schneider and potentially play ahead of him or even with him if they want two RHDs on the same pair. It’s a solid depth add, insurance for inexperience and obviously for injury.”
