Multiple Teams Talking to Kraken About Mark Giordano Trade
The Seattle Kraken will be trading Mark Giordano, but where will he wind up? A number of teams are interested.
As per Emily Kaplan of ESPN, expect the Seattle Kraken to move defenseman Mark Giordano imminently. There are a number of teams showing interest and the Kraken have settled into the idea that it’s best to move their first-ever captain before the March 21 NHL Trade Deadline comes and goes.

Kaplan writes, “Giordano technically has a 10-team no-trade list, but I heard he has not even bothered giving it to the Kraken, knowing the team that trades for him will be one that views itself as a contender.” Among the teams that have shown interest, the New York Rangers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers, St. Louis Blues, and Carolina Hurricanes are the more aggressive teams. Kaplan does rule out the Hurricanes though, saying, “However, it seems unlikely Francis would deal with the Hurricanes, his former team, to help them get better.”
So too, with Giordano having now officially played his 1000th NHL game, any reason to hold back a deal is now gone. Giordano is averaging nearly 21 minutes per night for the Kraken and leads their blue line in scoring. There’s clearly still something left in the tank there, even if he’s purely a rental for a team that picks him up.

He’s got plenty of playoff experience and provides the physical presence that a number of teams will be looking for.
Look Out for the Rangers On This One
The Rangers are looking to make a splash at this year’s deadline and have the money to spend to add. Their current blue line only has 36 games of playoff experience among the lot and Giordano would certainly bring the club leadership during a time the organization would like to make a serious run.
What they would give up to acquire Giordano isn’t clear, but the team does have a couple of prospects that could be worked into any potential deal, including Vitali Kravtsov, who is looking to be traded.
