Chicago Blackhawks Trade D Nicolas Beaudin and F Evan Barratt
The Chicago Blackhawks have traded prospects Nicolas Beaudin and Evan Barratt in separate deals on Wednesday.
The Montreal Canadiens have acquired defenseman Nicolas Beaudin, a 2018 first-round pick, from the Chicago Blackhawks in exchange for forward Cam Hillis. The trade was announced on Wednesday; this is the second trade between these two teams in just a couple of months. The first deal saw Kirby Dach go to the Canadiens as part of a more extensive trade at the NHL Entry Draft.
Both Beaudin and Hillis played NHL games as call-ups last season. But Hillis was in ECHL Trois-Rivieres to start this year. Blackhawks reporter Ben Pope writes, “This is entirely about giving Beaudin, who had been barely getting playing time even in Rockford dating back to last season, a fresh start in his home province. The former 1st-rounder never panned out.”
The Blackhawks also have traded Evan Barratt to the Philadelphia Flyers organization for 23-year-old defenseman Cooper Zech. Zech will report to Rockford. Moving Barratt is also being described as a deal that was meant to give the player a fresh start elsewhere.
Barratt is from Bristol, Pa. Has 0 points in 2 games with AHL Rockford this season. He was 14-14-28 in 63 AHL games last season and should provide decent AHL depth in Lehigh Valley. Barratt, a 3rd-round pick in 2017, never made a big jump in the professional ranks after a nice college career.
