Bruins and Trent Frederic Contract Bind Sparks Trade Buzz

Elliotte Friedman says several teams are calling the Boston Bruins about a Trent Frederic trade with the two sides apart in contract talks.

Boston Bruins forward Trent Frederic has become a hot topic on the NHL trade market as teams show increasing interest in acquiring the physical forward. According to Elliotte Friedman on 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, multiple teams believe the Bruins and Frederic may struggle to agree on a new contract. Other reports suggest the Bruins and the forward aren’t close on terms. However, Friedman cautioned against assuming a trade is imminent.

“There are definitely some teams out there that feel that the Bruins and Frederic won’t be able to get a deal done, but I was really warned about saying that,” Friedman explained. “Whatever the Bruins’ intentions are here, they are getting a lot of calls about him.”

Frederic, 26, has 11 points (5 goals, 6 assists) in 32 games this season. Known for his grit and physical style of play, he’s the type of player playoff-bound teams covet. Friedman described him as “a good teammate, competitive, and a willing combatant” who brings energy and toughness to the ice. He’s on an affordable contract ($2.3 million), and he’s a pending UFA. It’s an affordable deal for several contenders.

Mike Grinnell of Spittin’ Chiclets added further context, saying the Bruins and Frederic are “not even in the same stratosphere” regarding contract negotiations.

Watch for the Blues to Talk with the Bruins

One team to watch is the St. Louis Blues. As Friedman noted, Frederic is from St. Louis, and the Blues have been actively looking to improve their roster. A move to his hometown could make sense if the Bruins decide to part ways with the rugged forward.

Frederic’s physicality and willingness to play a gritty game make him a valuable asset. Teams searching for size and toughness—qualities often essential in the playoffs—will continue to monitor the situation closely.
