Buffalo Sabres Have To Make Bold Trade To Improve Roster

While the Buffalo Sabres make not be looking to make a trade now, if they do in the future it will need to be a bold one.

Every year, we hear the same thing about the Buffalo Sabres: when will they take the next step in their rebuild? Or have the Buffalo Sabres turned a corner and ready to compete for a playoff spot? And finally, when are the Buffalo Sabres going to make the playoffs? If it’s going to be this season, the Sabres may need to make a bold trade or two.

The fan base and those inside the organization continued to ask those questions. The Sabres are looking to end their 13-year playoff drought, extending to 14 years after a 10-game losing streak.

As NHLTradeTalk.com has documented, the vultures are circling the Sabres and Dylan Cozens. Macro D’Amico of RG reported that teams like the Nashville Predators have spoken to the Sabes about him. Cozens also fits into what Calgary Flames GM Craig Conroy is also looking to add.

However, he might not be the only player out there available for trade. As Dave Pagnotta of the Fourth Period documented, the Sabres have been feeling out the market to see what they can get for their unrestricted free agents Jason Zucker, Jordan Greenway, Nicolas Aube-Kubel, and Henri Jokiharju.

Pagnotta said:

“They’re going to start looking at different options. They are right now in terms of trying to improve. And Kevyn Adams, for the last couple of weeks, has been scouring the market and trying to comb it and see what pieces may be available. But outside of potentially moving out some of his expiring contracts later in the season, Jason Zucker and a few others, he wants to add. He wants to be in a position to improve his roster and his core.”

Sabres Still Getting Calls On Some of Their Players

Besides Dylan Cozens, the Sabres have also received calls on Jack Quinn. “We also know Dylan Cozens is a player of interest and has been on teams’ radars since the summer,” Pagnotta said. “I’m not sure if the Sabres want to go in that direction, but if you’re looking to make bold moves, you have to be willing to part with bold players.”

He adds, “We could see some interesting stuff out of Buffalo later this season if they can find a way to do our traditional little hockey trade, but it looks like it’s going to be a more impactful one if they can find the right pieces.”

All eyes will be on the Buffalo Sabres moving forward, who gets shipped out, and who stays to solve the problems.
