Jeff Petry’s Crazy Eyes Explained by His Wife
After much was made of Jeff Petry’s eyes during Game 2 between the Canadiens and Golden Knights, his wife took to Instagram to explain.
During Wednesday night’s game between the Montreal Canadiens and Vegas Golden Knights, everyone tuning into the game couldn’t help but notice Jeff Petry’s eyes, which were extremely bloodshot.
The eerie look had many discussing what was going on, with some suggesting it may have been a late night out in Vegas while others thought perhaps substance use. As it turns out, it was nothing anywhere near that drastic, instead being bilateral subconjunctival hemorrhage, which is broken blood vessels under the cornea. This was later confirmed by his wife, Julie, who wanted to dispel any rumors going around.

“No, it’s not allergies,” Julie wrote. “No, it’s not after a couple nights in Vegas. No, it’s not bloodshot because he’s tired. No, they don’t hurt or bother him. All related to his ‘upper body injury’ but let me tell you he looks a lot better than he did a week ago.”
Thankfully for Petry, who is already battling a hand injury, there is no pain involved despite how bad it looks. That was huge for the Habs as the 33-year-old had one of his best games of the playoffs, registering an assist in a 3-2 win in which he played over 20 minutes. Thanks to the valiant effort, the series is now tied at one a piece as both teams get set to head to Montreal for Game 3.
Habs Counting on Petry
Despite Carey Price claiming Petry was “scary looking”, both he and his teammates are happy to have the veteran defenceman back, as he was arguably their top player throughout the entire regular season. While he failed to get nominated, many were suggesting throughout the year that he may end up a Norris Trophy finalist, particularly through the first half of the season. He ended the year with 12 goals and 42 points in 55 games, just two points shy of Tyler Toffoli’s team leading 44.
While it is unclear how hurt Petry is right now, he didn’t appear worse for wear last night and the Habs will have to hope that is the case moving forward. If they have any chance of advancing past the stacked Golden Knights roster to go on to the Stanley Cup Final, they will need him at his absolute best. Game 3 between these two clubs will take place on Friday in what promises to be a spirited bout.
