J.T. Miller Traded to the New York Rangers in Multi-Piece Deal

JT Miller has been asked to waive no-trade clause to join the New York Rangers as the Canucks try to finalize a trade.

The New York Rangers and Vancouver Canucks have agreed on a trade that will send J.T. Miller and other pieces to the Rangers for multiple pieces coming back. Frank Seravalli notes, “Trade call is in the works. Multiple pieces on both sides as part of the package.” But, it’s a done deal waiting for an official announcement.

Filip Chytil and Victor Mancini are part of the deal, but other pieces have yet to be announced. It sounds like a protected first-rounder is part of the trade. Draft pick is Top-13 protected this year.

A report is surfacing that the New York Rangers recently reached out to the Vancouver Canucks about a possible trade for J.T. Miller.

Full Details of the Trade:

Full trade details are as follows:

  • To the Rangers: J.T. Miller, Erik Brannstrom, Jackson Dorrington
  • To the Canucks: Filip Chytil, Victor Mancini, 2025 1st Round Pick (Top 13 Protected) No salary retained on Miller. If the Rangers pick is in the top 13, the pick transfers to 2026.

It didn’t take long for the news to start rolling in on Friday. Sportsnet insider Elliotte Friedman first tweeted that the Canucks were getting closer to trading J.T. Miller to the New York Rangers. The Rangers have been linked to Miller for weeks, but talks reportedly fell apart when it was said they didn’t want to pay full price on his contract. It seems both sides went back to the table with some big trades having gone down over the past week.

Not long after that, Darren Dreger wrote, “JT Miller has been asked to Waive NMC to go to the NYR. Won’t be in the Canucks lineup tonight.”

Miller Wanted to Go to the Rangers

Frank Seravalli has added that Miller had agreed to waive his no-trade, which surprised no one. “Sources say J.T. Miller has asked and verbally agreed to waive his ‘no-trade’ clause to accept a trade to the #NYR. Formal submission of paperwork pending. So long as #NYR and #Canucks can close the deal this time, he will be heading to New York.”

It is not clear what the full details of the trade are yet. Seravalli says it sounds like other pieces and prospects are going with Miller to the Rangers as part of a larger package. This one looks like it’s going to be a big trade.

The Canucks are not retaining salary in the deal, which is a huge part of the trade for them and mainly why the two teams walked away from the table when they first discussed the trade.
