Scarlett appeared nude on Vanity Fair‘s March 2006 Hollywood cover issue, alongside a bare Keira Knightley and coming-undone suited fashion designer Tom Ford. Back then, a 20-year-old Johansson was all young soft curves, before carving out Black Widow’s svelte assassin physique. Nudity of any kind has always caused controversy in Hollywood and in Western culture, but this photo in particular stirred up feelings of misogyny in the industry, as it seemed to imply that women in Hollywood are required flaunt their sexuality more than men. At such a young age in an industry dominated by men, it’s likely that Scarlett felt this was true to get herself ahead. Five years later in 2011, nude photos were hacked from Scarlett’s phone and subsequently published online. Johansson’s Wikipedia page summarizes that ‘following an FBI investigation, the hacker was arrested, pleaded guilty, and was sentenced to 10 years in prison’. Johansson claimed the photos had been shared with her then-husband, Ryan Reynolds, years prior to the hack. Of course, hindsight is 20/20, and if the photos had never been taken, never could they have been stolen. Although it’s safe to say a few leaked risque photos haven’t extinguished Scarlett’s rising star. Get it, girl!
