Blues Trade Brayden Schenn to the New York Islanders
The New York Islanders and St. Louis Blues are set to complete a deal sending captain Brayden Schenn to the Isles.
The New York Islanders and St. Louis Blues completed a deal sending captain Brayden Schenn to the Islanders. Elliotte Friedman reports, “Brayden Schenn from St Louis for Jonathan Drouin, 2026 1st (Colorado), a 3rd and Marcus Gidlof.”
Multiple trade alert accounts were not reporting upon first hearing the news that the deal had been finalized, with Darren Dreger reporting, “Work being done on a deal to send Brayden Schenn to the Islanders. Work still being done. Players approval, etc.” Not long after, things had played out as the Islanders had hoped and Schenn approved.
Schenn, 34, is the Blues’ long-time leader and a key piece of their 2019 Stanley Cup win. He’s in the final stretch of an eight-year, $52M contract with a $6.5M AAV through 2026-27. He has a 15-team no-trade list this season (it dropped from full NTC earlier), so the Islanders must be on his approved list—or he’s waived it for this move.
His production has been down amid the Blues’ struggles, but he was rumored to be potentially on the move long before his production dipped. He’s the kind of player teams love to have. For the Islanders, he adds veteran grit, faceoff ability, leadership, and playoff experience.
It is not known what the confirmed return is — expect picks, prospects, or a salary-matching piece from NYI (they have cap space/flexibility). Blues may likely retain some salary to make it work, given Schenn’s cap hit and their rebuild/sell mode.

This is a big emotional one for Blues fans—Schenn’s been a franchise cornerstone.
