Johansson’s returning role as martial artist/secret agent Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff in MCU’s Iron Man, Captain America, and Avengers films have secured her a permanent place in Comic-Con fandom. There’s no denying Black Widow is anything but fierce, from her fighting style to her style – Black Widow’s combination of black catsuit and fiery red hair is deadly. But what happened in Avengers: Infinity War? Natasha’s thin, fried, bleached blonde hair gives her the appearance of a tired mom (to be fair – Johansson IS a busy mom IRL). A lackluster, uneven bob and barely-there makeup take away a lot of the sex appeal we are accustomed to from this character. What would cause Romanoff to alter her appearance so? When we first meet her in Infinity War, Romanoff has been living off the grid with Steve Rogers AKA Captain America, away from the reach of Tony Stark and the rest of the disbanded Avengers. Espionage isn’t part of her daily grind these days, so she’s not required to keep up the femme-fatale looks. It doesn’t hurt that downplaying her famous looks help her stay under the radar. Plus, it’s 2018 – ain’t nobody going to tell a woman how she should look, even if she’s a superhero…especially if she’s a superhero.
