Golden Knights Move Sedoff and a Pick in Trade For Cole Smith
The Vegas Golden Knights gave up a third-round pick and a prospect for Cole Smith in a trade on Tuesday night.
The Vegas Golden Knights have acquired forward Cole Smith from the Nashville Predators. The trade was confirmed by the hockey club late Tuesday night. Smith was removed from tonight’s game against the Columbus Blue Jackets after a three-second shift. He was awaiting word on a potential trade destination.
As per the Golden Knights, the return to Nashville is a third-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft and prospect defenseman Christoffer Sedoff.
This move adds a gritty, bottom-six winger to Vegas’ lineup as they push toward the trade deadline and playoffs. Smith, 30, has been a physical presence with the Preds this season—tallied 10 points (6G, 4A) in 42 games, plus 119 hits (tied for second on Nashville) and heavy penalty-kill time.
He’s a pending UFA after this year, with a $1M cap hit.
It was the second trade the Predators made on Tuesday, first sending Michael McCarron to the Minnesota Wild. Head coach Andrew Brunnette said, “We’re gonna miss two great people, two big parts of our culture. What they bring everyday. They’re wonderful people. They’re kind of like family. Been around them for three years so sad to see them go. At the same time, hoping for the best, other places that have a good opportunity to have a long run, further their career. But we’re gonna miss them. It’s a sad day here today.”
