Sedins Agree to Take a “Larger” Role with the Canucks

The Sedins will be joining the Vancouver Canucks in an executive role, helping the fracnhise try to turn its fortunes around.

“It looks like they’re going to take a bigger role,” said NHL insider Elliotte Friedman on the FAN Hockey Show on Monday. Following an update on his 32 Thoughts podcast in which he reported that Henrik and Daniel were asked, it sounds like the twins have now agreed to take on a larger role with the Canucks moving forward.

Canucks insider Rick Dhaliwal confirmed Friedman’s report, noting, “Elliotte Friedman is on the show, he broke the story that the Sedin Twins are taking a bigger role with the Canucks. We will also talk with Stan Smyl about the loss of his legendary junior coach Punch Mclean.”

Irfaan Gaffar added, “Elliotte is right. Daniel and Henrik Sedin were offered larger front-office roles with the Vancouver Canucks and accepted them over the weekend. The structure of what they are trying to do is starting to take shape.”

Friedman called it the Swedish Startup, suggesting that the Canucks were following the trend set by the Toronto Maple Leafs, who recently brought in Mats Sundin to play an advisory role with the organization. The Sedins are beloved in Vancouver, care about the franchise, and are already planted in the area. They want to see the organization turn things around and will be invested in their success moving forward.
