NHL Trade Talk Recap: Kraken, Predators, Canadiens, Lightning & Maple Leafs

Three NHL stories with major implications: Seattle and Nashville swap prospects, Larkin considers a trade-list shakeup, and Kucherov eyes Canada.

In today’s NHL Trade Talk Recap (November 1, 2026), Seattle and Nashville pulled the trigger on a one-for-one swap of young players who both need a fresh start. Dylan Larkin is sitting out and could shake up his trade list, with Montreal as a name to watch. And Nikita Kucherov wants out of Tampa, with Toronto and Montreal reportedly on his radar if the Lightning ever budge.

Kraken and Preds Swap Young Guys with Something to Prove

Seattle finally moved on from Shane Wright, the former fourth overall pick who never quite took off. He’s sending his talents to Nashville in a straight one-for-one deal for Matthew Wood, a big 6’4″ winger who was picked 15th in 2023.

Neither guy has really cracked it yet, so it’s a gamble for both teams. But both were stuck on third lines and wanted a fresh start, so this could be a win for everybody.

Larkin’s Sitting Out and Might Shuffle His Trade List

Dylan Larkin is done waiting around. He’s pulled himself from the lineup, so he’s losing money every day, and Elliotte Friedman thinks he might tweak his 10-team trade list in the next day or two. Florida, Vegas, and Colorado probably can’t make a deal work, so they could get dropped, and no Canadian teams are on there yet.

Minnesota, Washington, New Jersey, and Carolina have all been talking with Detroit, but nothing’s close. The Red Wings want NHL players, not a pile of picks. Word is that if Larkin adds Montreal, a deal could happen right away, and some think the two sides already have one lined up.

Kucherov’s Fed Up with Tampa, and Canada’s Calling

Nikita Kucherov wants out of Tampa, and Elliotte Friedman says he’d be cool with landing in Toronto or Montreal if the Lightning cave and the trade package is right. Apparently it’s less about the money and more about how slowly the contract talks were moving. Plus the market got pricier after that Leo Carlsson offer sheet.

Tampa says he’s not available and is basically hoping he changes his mind. His teammates seem bummed but think he’ll keep playing like a star in the meantime.
