Latest on Rumors Oilers Pursuing Patrick Kane Trade
Is there any truth to speculation the Edmonton Oilers are currently interested in trading for Patrick Kane of the Chicago Blackhawks?
Something interesting is happening when it comes to the Edmonton Oilers and Chicago Blackhawks. For some reason, the two teams are being linked in trade talks, all with speculation that forward Patrick Kane might be on Edmonton’s radar. Bob Stauffer of Oilers Now has mentioned the idea a couple of times on his show, throwing out theories that Arizona could get involved and retain salary and asking what it might cost to make this deal work, while sports betting site Sportsbetting.ag actually has the Oilers edging out Colorado in term of odds to land Kane in a deal this season.
But, for Oilers fans getting excited about the idea of Patrick Kane flanking Connor McDavid on the Oilers’ top line, don’t get too excited. Tom Gazzola of TSN has shot down any rumors, citing first-hand sources that say there are no legs to any story that Edmonton has inquired about Kane’s availability.

Gazzola was asked the question by Dustin Nielson on their Oil Stream Podcast and Gazzola responded that he was on vacation when he got bombarded with texts about the rumors. He looked into it and got a swift response that it isn’t true. He says “there is no interest in Kane from an Oilers’ perspective right now.”
Gazzola explains: “It’s something that came up in recent meetings on hockey ops and it was shut down by everybody at the top, starting with Ken Holland. That’s just a rumor, that’s stirring it up, that’s click bait.” In fact, there’s no word from Kane’s side that he’s yet informed the Blackhawks he’s even looking to leave Chicago. He may inevitably do so, but the team is not actively taking trade calls on the player.
That doesn’t mean the Oilers will rule it out completely if Kane becomes legitimately available and Edmonton is a contender, but for now, while the topic of Kane was brought up very quickly in a meeting with the hockey ops department, there is nothing to the buzz that Holland intends to pursue the player at this moment in time.
