Evander Kane Has Testy Back-and-Forth With Oilers Reporter Online
Evander Kane and Sportsnet’s Mark Spector exchanged shots on social media on Thursday.
Evander Kane has never been one to shy away from voicing his thoughts and opinions, and that’s not going to change now.
The former Edmonton Oilers winger took to social media on Thursday, responding to a tweet about Dr. Anthony Fauci following a recent hearing where he reportedly pleaded the fifth more than 100 times.
Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, however, Sportsnet’s Mark Spector wasn’t a fan of Kane’s take, calling it selfish.
Spector wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“Imagine, Evander Kane with a selfish take,”
Kane quickly clapped back with a tweet of his own coming right after Spector:
“Imagine, Mark Spector with a idiotic take. The drama of it all.
I would say more but you might start crying like you did when I gave you a talking to outside the locker room. Don’t tell me you forgot,”
The 35-year-old Kane remains a UFA after playing out the four-year, $20.5 million contract extension he originally signed with the Oilers back in 2022. He tallied 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) in 71 games played for the Vancouver Canucks last season.
There had been talks about the possibility of Kane returning to Edmonton on a PTO or one-year contract to bolster the Oilers’ forward depth. Something like this doesn’t necessarily rule that out, but it certainly doesn’t help his cause.
Kane still has plenty of game left in him, even into his mid-30s, but whether a team is willing—or wants—to deal with everything else that comes with him remains to be seen. As of August 7, none have. That being said, it still won’t be surprising to see the veteran power forward find a home once training camps and the start of the 2026-27 season get closer.

I disagree with your entire take on Kane. In his youth he was the ultimate power forward. Extremely physical and always a danger to score. He had swagger and attitude and the attitude got him into plenty of trouble.
By the time he joined Edmonton the swagger was still there but that attitude was in check. We was well liked by fans and teammates and was a consummate professional. Unfortunately, Father Time catches up with all of us. Each year here he became less of an offensive threat. He was traded away because of his cap hit and his eroding abilities. It was never anything to do with his off ice personality or “dealing with everything else” as you said. I don’t believe he has enough game left to be of interest to the Oilers. Anyone that signs him is no longer getting a power forward. You would now be getting a physical 4th liner that is not great defensively. The Oilers would love to have his swagger back, but we have younger options for the physical 4the line winger options in Frederic and Dach.
