Taylor Hall Close to Multi-Year Extension With the Bruins

Reports are the Boston Bruins and Taylor Hall might be close on a multi-year contract extension.

As per the well-connected Andy Strickland, it appears a deal between the Boston Bruins and forward Taylor Hall is close to getting done. Strickland tweeted, “Hearing Taylor Hall return to #NHLBruins is moving in that direction.” It’s an interesting development because there was news recently that Hall was garnering outside interest from other teams and that, maybe, a deal with the Bruins wasn’t as slam dunk a deal as many had expected.

Darren Dreger of TSN recently reported that there has been interest from other teams and named the Toronto Maple Leafs as an organization that might look at Hall to replace Zach Hyman if he goes to free agency. It wasn’t clear how the Leafs would have fit Hall in under the cap with their current situation, but that never seems to stop Toronto-based media from speculating.

Strickland didn’t elaborate on when the Bruins and Hall might look to sign any extension but the NHL Expansion Draft would play a factor as the team would likely protect Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron, David Pastrnak, Charlie Coyle, Craig Smith, Jake DeBrusk, and Trent Frederic. Adding Hall before then would potentially cost the team one of these players.

Hall Extension Terms?

The terms of any possible extension in Boston were not mentioned either. Some believe Hall is looking for at least four years on a new deal and likely $5 million or more per season. If that’s his price tag, one would think the Bruins wouldn’t have an issue signing that deal. Other teams would probably be interested at that number as well.

Will Hall come off the board as a possible free agent and sign in Boston where he’s publicly stated he’d like to stay? Will the Bruins get an item on their to-do list checked off? Before this deal is final, we’re bound to hear conflicting reports about how close it actually is to being done.
