Tage Thompson Has a 6-Point Night for Sabres vs. Red Wings

Capped off by a six-point night on Monday, Thompson scored three goals and three assists in the Sabres routing of the Detroit Red Wings.

Quickly proving he was worth every penny the Buffalo Sabres paid him more quickly than a lot of insiders were expecting, Tage Thompson is showing it was a calculated gamble that will more than likely pay off in spades. Capped off by a six-point night on Monday, Thompson scored three goals and three assists in the Sabres routing of the Detroit Red Wings. Thompson recorded his second career NHL hat trick to help the Buffalo Sabres stomp the Detroit Red Wings in an 8-3 win.

Thompson’s third goal of the night was just DISGUSTING. He danced around defenders and a goalie while virtually standing still. As Chris Peters wrote, “I don’t have a problem with Tage Thompson being 6-foot-7 or his being especially skilled. I do have a problem that he’s both at the same time. That shouldn’t be allowed. Very unfair.”

Thompson has become the second player in Buffalo Sabres history, and the first since Pat LaFontaine in 1992-93, to record a point on eight consecutive goals scored by the Sabres. He is also the first Sabres player in nearly 30 years with a six-point game on Halloween and he joined two Hall of Famers in Wayne Gretzky and Bobby Clarke to sit tied atop an all-time list. He has nine points in the last TWO games.

Sabres Sign Tage Thompson to Risky Long-Term Deal

The Sabres signed him early to a seven-year, $50 million deal. He’s quickly developed into a special player and at 6’7, 225lbs and he’s an absolute nightmare to defend because of his skill and mobility. As the Sabres grow into a more well-rounded team — they already have two future studs on defense in Rasmus Dahlin and Owen Power — they will be a team to watch in the future. Thompson just needs a bit more help at forward, but the Sabres have some young prospects growing on the NHL roster in Dylan Cozens, Peyton Krebs, and Casey Mittelstadt.
