Senators Trade For Ryan Dzingel, Move Galchenyuk and Paquette

The Ottawa Senators are trading for Ryan Dzingel and sending Cedric Paquette and Alex Galchenyuk to the Carolina Hurricanes.

Dzingel Galchenyuk Paquette trade

As per a few sources on Saturday, there is an NHL trade to announce. As per Elliotte Friedman, it appears Ryan Dzingel is on his way back to Ottawa and to play for the Senators. Freidman says the Senators are closing in on acquiring the winger from the Carolina Hurricanes and TSN’s Frank Seravalli adds that Cedric Paquette and Alex Galchenyuk are going to Carolina.

According to the reports, there is no salary being retained on any of the players. All three players are in the final year of their current deals and obviously, all will have to undergo COVID- quarantine because the trade is a cross-border deal.

Dzingel is the biggest name moved in the trade as he had a couple of 20+ goal seasons with the Senators. When he was traded by the Sens during the 2018-19 season and as part of an attempt by the Columbus Blue Jackets to load up for an ultimately unsuccessful playoff push, he’s not exactly been the same player since. Perhaps there is hope here that he’ll bounce back a bit with more elevated minutes and a bigger opportunity.

As for Galchenyuk, this is now the sixth team he’ll have played for since the 2017-18 season. He can’t seem to find a home and has only one goal in eight games this season. Paquette has also struggled with only one goal in nine games this season.
