Ridly Greig To Have Hearing with NHLDoPS For Sucker Punch

Ottawa Senators forward Ridly Greig will have a hearing for his sucker punch to Sean Walker of the Carolina Hurricanes.

According to the NHL Department of Player Safety, Ridly Greig will have a hearing for roughing Carolina’s Sean Walker. Greig is catching all sorts of flak for punching Walker while another teammate had the defenseman in a headlock.

They write, “Ottawa’s Ridly Greig will have a hearing for roughing Carolina’s Sean Walker. Date and time TBD.”

The game on Saturday night got wild as the Hurricanes eliminated the Senators from the postseason. Paul Bissonette tweeted, “It’s pandemonium. Ottawa and Carolina just trying to kill one another. Tkachuk just trucked Hall. Ridly Greig should be gone after that bull—sucker punch on Walker. That’s f—ing bull—t.”

The time is to be determined because any suspension levied to Greig can’t be applied this season. With the Senators already eliminated, whatever punishment he’s handed will begin in 2026-27.

One of the questions that the NHL DoPS will ask is whether this is a third man in a situation. It wasn’t a fight, so to speak, but it was an altercation and a one-sided act of aggression by Greig.

Walker got some retribution when he hit Greig from behind later in the game. It remains to be seen if that hit will get looked at.

Pierre LeBrun posted that the punch has gotten around the league. “There was some chatter about what Greig did in both Tampa and Montreal rooms this morning. Let’s just say some players in both rooms very much thought that was completely wrong and crossing the line.”
