Insider Expects Senators to Explore Brady Tkachuk Trade This Offseason

Could this be the summer Brady Tkachuk is traded out of Ottawa?

Brady Tkachuk and the Ottawa Senators were just swept in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the Carolina Hurricanes, so now come plenty of questions about what’s next in the Nation’s Capital.

Stars Tkachuk and Tim Stutzle were held to just one point (one assist) over the four games combined, stymied by the number one seed in the Eastern Conference and unable to convert on the numerous chances they did get.

The captain, in particular, was visibly frustrated and emotional during and after the Game 4 loss. While that’s understandable for such a competitor, seeing it come soon after a recent report from insider David Pagnotta mentioning that the Senators could explore trading Tkachuk this summer begs the question of whether that could have been his last game in Ottawa.

Pagnotta said:

“I think there’s a good chance the Sens explore trading Brady Tkachuk this summer. And it’s for a variety of reasons, and I don’t think it’s exclusively to do with the fact that he plays in Ottawa. I think there are different parameters for him that have factored into perhaps that personal decision,”

The 26-year-old Tkachuk just finished the fifth year of the seven-year, $57,564,958 contract extension he signed with the Senators back in 2021, eligible for a new extension come July 1, 2027.

Pagnotta went on to mention teams out west such as the Utah Mammoth, Seattle Kraken, and St. Louis Blues as landing spots to keep an eye on, while discounting the potential family reunion in Florida with Matthew Tkachuk, given the in-division complications.

A Tkachuk trade out of Ottawa has always swirled around the rumor mill, but this year it felt more realistic and possibly inevitable to come than ever before. The fan favorite took heat for numerous things throughout the season, including all that went on in the aftermath of Team USA winning Olympic gold, his comments — or lack thereof — on the Wingmen podcast, and even for his play with the Senators at times, with fans wondering whether he was checked out.

Going pointless in a four-game first-round sweep only amplified that, and it now feels like we could be in for a massive summer of change in Ottawa.

Mental weakness and lack of discipline by several in the core diluted their talent. Brady’s penalty in game 3 led to Carolina’s first goal of the game. Just one example.
