NHL Trade Talk Recap: Lightning, Red Wings, Hurricanes & Wild
Nikita Kucherov wants out, Quinn Hughes faces a big decision, and Minnesota is chasing Dylan Larkin. Three NHL trade stories are heating up.
In today’s NHL Trade Talk Recap (October 30, 2026), the trade market is getting wild, starting in Tampa, where reigning MVP Nikita Kucherov told his teammates he won’t re-sign and wants to be traded. Over in Minnesota, the Wild have a Quinn Hughes problem that looks a lot like the Mikko Rantanen situation in Carolina, except Hughes hasn’t given anyone a list of teams he’d sign with. And the Dylan Larkin saga keeps rolling, with the Wild reportedly offering up to three first-round picks while Detroit holds out for NHL players who can help right now.

Kucherov Wants Out of Tampa, and Nobody Saw It Coming
Big shocker out of Tampa: reigning MVP Nikita Kucherov has told his teammates and the Lightning that he won’t re-sign and wants to be traded. Per Pierre LeBrun, he and his agent met with GM Julien BriseBois, and Kucherov told his teammates on the plane. Nobody’s said why, and both BriseBois and his agent are keeping quiet.
He’s in the final year of his $9.5 million deal and has a 10-team trade list, but we don’t know who’s on it. Tampa is 8-3-1 and sitting third in the Atlantic, so this won’t be an easy one for them to sort out. After the initial reports, Lightning GM Julien BriseBois said the team has no intention of trading Kucherov.

Will the Wild Pull a Rantanen on Quinn Hughes?
Nobody knows whether Quinn Hughes will sign in Minnesota or walk in free agency, and apparently the Wild don’t know either. Elliotte Friedman says it feels a lot like the Mikko Rantanen situation in Carolina. The Hurricanes decided they couldn’t wait, traded him to Dallas for a nice haul, and ended up winning a Cup. If Minnesota sits tight and Hughes leaves for nothing, they look pretty foolish.
The big difference is that Rantanen gave Carolina a list of teams he’d extend with, so they could build a market. Hughes hasn’t done that. He’s been honest but won’t make any promises. That makes it tough for any team to give up big assets for him. They’d be risking him walking too.

Wild Are Offering Picks for Larkin, But Detroit Wants Players
Minnesota is still all-in on Dylan Larkin and has reportedly made multiple offers, including two or three first-round picks. The hang-up is that Detroit wants NHL players who can help right now, not a pile of futures. Scott Wheeler thinks that makes no sense, since the Red Wings could just flip the picks for whatever they want.
Detroit isn’t in a rush with Larkin suspended without pay, so they can take their time shopping around. The Flyers might also jump in as a third team to help make a deal work. Montreal is the only other team with a package ready, and they’re not even on Larkin’s list.
