Is Kucherov Heading to Edmonton? Connect the Dots

Nikita Kucherov’s agent, Dan Milstein, has always been a huge Mike Babcock fan, calling him one of the greatest coaches in the game. Bob Stauffer then hinted that Milstein probably already has a landing spot in mind, and ESPN’s Emily Kaplan reports Kucherov wants to play alongside another elite superstar. Edmonton can offer McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard, though the Rangers make sense too, with their Russian crowd and big-market spotlight.

The Oilers have some big hurdles, though. Plenty of teams with better prospects and picks will make stronger trade offers, and fitting Kucherov under the cap next to McDavid, Draisaitl and Bouchard would take some serious number-crunching. Free agency might be the more realistic route, but that power play would be unreal.

Maybe the Flames Should Just Keep Morgan Frost

Calgary started the year with five straight losses, but they’ve picked it up lately, and Morgan Frost has been a big part of it. Chris Johnston had him pegged as a trade candidate, but now Pierre LeBrun says extension talks have happened. That could mean the Flames like him, or they could just be checking his value around the league.

Frost scored a power-play goal and added an assist in Friday’s 6-2 win over Seattle, and he’s up to four goals and five assists in 13 games. Not superstar numbers, but useful for a team that needs offence. Rebuilding teams still need guys who can help young players grow, so keeping him might make sense.

Should the Maple Leafs Be Worried About Bobrovsky?

Sergei Bobrovsky hasn’t looked great for Toronto lately, and Doug MacLean isn’t sure it turns around fast. He pointed to Bobrovsky’s rough start in Florida, which he says played a part in GM Dale Tallon’s eventual exit, but Bobrovsky bounced back from that before. At 38, MacLean also wonders how much workload he can handle, and he thinks the Leafs are giving up too many chances in front of him.

MacLean’s biggest point is that Toronto should be quicker to pull Bobrovsky on a bad night, since winning matters more than protecting feelings. Nobody needs to panic yet, but the Leafs can’t wait forever for better goaltending, better defence and some wins.
