Honestly, the more I get to know the Toronto Maple Leafs’ Matt Murray, the more I like him. He seems to be a level-headed, calm young guy with a thoughtful perspective.
In an interview today with the media, which can be seen below in the video included, Murray speaks about his injury and his rehab.
Murray’s doing well and his groin injury is healing ahead of schedule. That’s the good news physically.
However, it’s more his philosophy that’s impressive to me. But, then, as an old guy and I tend to have a longer-term perspective. I’ve come to appreciate people who don’t get overwhelmed by the moment and who seem to intuitively realize that there’s more life coming.

Murray’s Injury and Rehab
As Murray explains in the short video, his rehab from the groin injury he suffered has gone incredibly well. In fact, the last word is that Murray might be ready to play in Saturday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks.
According to Murray, he owes a big thanks to the Maple Leafs. He’s ahead of his scheduled return; and, part of that success is due to the his treatment by the team’s medical staff. [I have to think that another part of his successful rehab is his own positive attitude.]
As Murray noted in the interview: “They have given everything; and, you know they’re top notch. They put you in a really good spot to heal and to do things properly.” That’s the reason why Murray feels he is day-to-day right now, instead of week-to-week.
How Did Murray’s Injury Occur?
In the interview, Murray explains that he suffered his freak groin injury during a simple morning skate. In that skate, for no apparent reason, he “just ended up tearing my groin.”
As Murray added, it was “just one of those things. I’ve never I never had it before and it came out of nowhere.”
But, then Murray turned to the positive: “I’m really happy with how the rehab is going.”

Murray the Philosopher
Murray admitted that, at first, he was disappointed and the situation was “a little bit frustrating.”
But, then, he became philosophical. He pointed out that “You know, I tried not to sit with those emotions for too long. Those can be pretty useless.”
He noted that, instead of stewing, he just turned his energy and focus to the rehab, which has gone incredibly well. He admitted that he keeps testing his groin in real-life, practice-like scenarios. The response has been positive.
Murray Is Having Fun Right Now
While Murray gave no indication of when he might return to play a game, he added that he’s having “a lot of fun I think right now.” His injury is “a day-to-day type of thing … and … I just take things one day at a time.”
The bottom line is that there are good days and he’s getting closer to returning.
Might it be as early as Saturday?
