Nik Ehlers injury Jets

News is coming down the wire on Monday that the Winnipeg Jets have suffered a massive loss heading into this year’s playoffs. Head coach Paul Maurice says Nik Ehlers out for rest of regular season after hit from Jake Muzzin on Saturday. “We’re confident and hopeful he’ll be back for the start of the playoffs,” the coach noted.

Ehlers has 46 points in 47 games for Jets, so saying his loss for last three weeks of regular-season is a blow is a fair understatement. He was having a breakout season and arguably the team’s most dangerous offensive weapon up to this point.

It appears Ehlers is out because of an upper-body issue after the collision on Saturday with Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Jake Muzzin. Maurice said he couldn’t pin down the injury on one of the several collisions he was involved in on Saturday.

Ehlers and Joe Thornton had a number of run-ins during their game this past weekend and there was all sorts of talk that the Leafs were playing like a “dirty team” which many of the players, including Wayne Simmonds took exception too. This injury to Ehlers won’t quiet down the talk.

The hit in question that most believe knocked Ehlers out of action is below:
