Carey Price Has Left Canadiens For Further Medical Tests

The Montreal Canadiens have issues in goal and they’ve not improved with news Carey Price has left the team for further tests.

The Montreal Canadiens have struggled of late and things won’t get any easier as their starting goaltender has left the team. Carey Price has headed back to Montreal for further evaluations and to receive further treatment for his concussion suffered during a game against the Edmonton Oilers this past week.

The Canadiens will have to finish off this road trip without him as they don’t play again at home until Wednesday. It’s not clear if Price will be anywhere close to ready by then, but it’s doubtful as head coach Dominique Ducharme ruled the netminder out for at least a week. Concussions are difficult to predict and with Price going down after what didn’t look like much of a collision, it’s really difficult to approximate the severity of his injury.

Oilers forward Alex Chiasson says he apologized to the Canadiens goaltender for the run-in, admits he misread the play.

Serious Questions in Goal For Canadiens

It’s not that Price has had a miraculous year. In 25 appearances, the 33-year-old has a 2.64 GAA and a .901 save %. But, he’s also still one of the best goaltenders in the world and the struggling Habs need his help if they’re going to continue not scoring goals and floundering on offense.  Long-term, if Price is not ready to go for the playoffs, this will be terrible news for Montreal who has already disappointed this season after the massive changes made to the roster by GM Marc Bergevin.

Cayden Primeau is likely to get a start here in the next couple of games, but it’s unclear if he’ll go in an upcoming must-win contest, the third of a series the Calgary Flames. Jake Allen has been filling in, and to be honest, might become the appointed starter, even if Price returns.
