Jamie Benn Signs 1-Yr ‘Last Run’ Deal to Return to Dallas Stars
The Dallas Stars have re-signed captain Jamie Benn to a one-year deal worth $850K. It didn’t take Benn long to deicde he was returning.
Jamie Benn has re-signed with the Dallas Stars. After taking some time to think about his future, the captain has re-upped with his team on a one-year, $850K extension. The deal includes an additional $1,150,000 in performance bonuses.
On Thursday, Stars GM Jim Nill was asked about Benn’s future. He responded:
“Jamie and I have talked just shortly, we’re gonna talk, I’m gonna give him a couple weeks. I want him back. I think he wants to come back, but I’m gonna give him that time. He needs to go through this and figure this out. But the organization does want him back, yes.”
Clearly, it didn’t take a couple of weeks for Benn to decide on what he wanted. And, the fact that he was willing to sign for $850K meant the Stars didn’t need much time to get the deal done either.
As much as Benn’s production has dropped and his speed and propensity to take penalties have become an issue, he’s still got value as a leader and regular role player.

Benn just needed to time to reflect on the past season and make sure he wanted to take another run at a Stanley Cup. Nill said, “If any of you guys know Jamie, he’s devastated. He takes these losses as hard as anybody. He takes responsibility for it. And he just needs to sit down and be a good father and a good husband right now and just chill a little bit, and that’s what he wants to do. So I’m gonna give him some time.”
It took a couple of days.
Benn’s Last Run with the Stars?
This will more than likely be Benn’s last kick at the can. While it’s only a one-year deal and he could re-sign, he is now 36 years old and will be 37 when the season starts. He had 15 goals this past season. How much longer can he play and be productive? He wants to give it one more run to find out.
