Edler to Have Hearing for Hit on Leafs’ Hyman, Plus Injury Update
Alex Edler will have a hearing for his hit on Zach Hyman, plus there’s news on Nick Foligno joining the team.
TSN’s hockey insider Darren Dreger was on Leafs Breakfast Monday morning and discussed the potential of Zach Hyman being out long-term after taking a knee-on-knee hit from Alex Edler in Sunday’s game against the Vancouver Canucks. The Leafs losing that game has not sat well with the fan base, but more importantly, a lengthy absence for Hyman could be a dagger for the Leafs when it comes to their playoffs push.

The good news is, Dreger says that early reports are that it’s not as bad as it might have appeared. While the injury looked severe on Sunday and that Hyman was in clear pain, it sounds like things could have been much worse and that a tear isn’t believed to have occurred.
It has also been revealed that the department of NHL Player Safety will be looking at the hit and it is likely Alex Edler will receive some sort of an additional penalty. Edler will have a hearing today for his hit on Hyman.
In Other Leafs News:
The Maple Leafs are expected to have newcomer Nick Foligno in the lineup on Thursday against the Winnipeg Jets, As per a report by NHL.com, Foligno spoke with Daren Millard via The Chirp Podcast and said he’s looking forward to debuting against ex-teammate Pierre-Luc Dubois. He noted:
We’ll face off against each other for the first time, so the familiar face across the way. It will be nice to probably have a practice but I rather … let’s go. I’m here to play for them and get this thing going, so I probably prefer to jump right into the door.
It looks like Foligno will slot in on the top line with Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner.
