Dubois Denies Rumors He’s Trying to Get Traded By Jets

Pierre-Luc Dubois is denying rumors he’s looking to be traded by the Winnipeg Jets to the Montreal Canadiens.

There’s plenty of talk that Winnipeg Jets center Pierre-Luc Dubois isn’t long for staying in Winnipeg. So too, his acceptance of a $6 million qualifying offer and his attendance at the NHL Entry Draft in Montreal seems to be taken as signs he’s actively trying to move on, and at some point, join the Montreal Canadiens. Dubois is denying such claims.

The forward recently addressed rumors that he’s trying to get himself traded by the Jets to the Habs and has flat out denied asking his current organization to trade him. “If I wanted out I would have asked for a trade,” said Dubois. “I didn’t ask for a trade. Not for one second. It didn’t cross my mind for one second to ask for a trade.”

While he might not have formally asked to be dealt, speculation continues to swirl. His agent recently said publicly that his client would like to join the Canadiens. Dubois addressed that too, saying, “To be honest, I saw the comments that he made. I think people were blowing them out of proportion. I think people took a little thing and blew it up times 20.”

He added that people can think what they want but he has not indicated to the Jets that he’s looking to leave. Dubois says he always intended to be at training camp and there’s no chance he holds out or doesn’t report.

Dubois says that 99 percent of the articles he’s seeing on social media or the Internet are wrong. He’s glad he had the opportunity to tell people straight up that he’s not looking to be traded. Interestingly, what many are taking away from his media avail is that he didn’t commit to wanting to stay with the Jets.

As for attending the NHL Draft, he said he is a hockey fan and was invited to attend by his bank. He lives 15 minutes away from the Bell Centre. He noted that had he been invited by the Jets to attend, he would have gone with them.
