Carter Hart Reportedly Set to Sign 2-Yr Deal with Golden Knights

Carter Hart is nearing a two-year signing with the Vegas Golden Knights worth $1.8 million per season. Find out more about this deal.

Carter Hart is reportedly set to join the Vegas Golden Knights, according to multiple NHL insiders. Elite Prospects’ Cam Robinson reported that Hart is nearing a two-year deal worth $1.8 million AAV, with Frank Seravalli noting the contract would be slightly above the league minimum. Elliotte Friedman called the move “very real” and suggested it could be finalized imminently.

Hart, 27, became eligible to sign an NHL contract on Wednesday but will not be allowed to play until December 1st due to league discipline. The former Philadelphia Flyers goaltender, who posted a .906 career save percentage in 227 games and backstopped the Flyers in a 2019-20 playoff run (.926 save percentage in 14 games), is seeking a fresh start after being found not guilty in the 2018 Team Canada trial.

Vegas provides Hart with a chance to compete for playing time behind starter Adin Hill. Hart could carve out a meaningful role in one of the NHL’s top contenders, while also mainly staying out of the spotlight that would come with him signing a deal with one of the NHL’s big-market or Canadian teams.

Though Hart hasn’t played competitive hockey since January 2024, the Golden Knights are reportedly confident in his ability to rebound and provide depth in goal. They weren’t the only team that looked at Hart, but were considered frontrunners from the moment the NHL approved all five players involved in the trial to eligible to resume their NHL careers.

Represented by Judd Moldaver of Wasserman, Hart’s signing would make him the most accomplished NHL player from his group of peers recently involved in the Team Canada trial.

There has been talk around other players, including recent comments by Friedman regarding Alex Formenton: “I do think there’s some interest, I just don’t know if it’s gonna happen as quickly, but I do think there’s been some teams that have talked about the possibility.” (FAN Hockey Show)
