This breath-taking dark retelling of Rudyard Kipling’s classic novel sees the titular Mowgli (Rohan Chand) as a much wilder boy than we’ve seen before in Disney’s original and tamer adaptations. Feral and held suffering in captivity by villagers, young Mowgli is helped to freedom by black panther Bagheera (Christian Bale). But the jungle he escapes to is no safe haven. Mowgli must resist the mesmerising python Kaa (Cate Blanchett), is hunted by the deadly man-hating tiger Shere Khan (Benedict Cumberbatch), and must also survive attack crossing the monkey kingdom’s ancient ruins.
Listen for chameleon/Director Andy Serkis voicing bear guide Baloo. Freida Pinto enraptures Mowgli in the village. Without identity as neither man nor wolf, can Mowgli bring peace to the jungle, as hoped for by his adoptive wolf pack? Or will he be seduced by man’s promise of wealth and security? A dramatically intense performance from young actor Chand brings the palpable sheer will to survive to the screen in Mowgli. See it in theatres this October.
