Bruins Join Pettersson and Miller Trade Talks With Canucks
Could the Boston Bruins be getting in on the trade conversations with the Vancouver Canucks for J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson?
As per RG.org’s Marco D’Amico, it’s time to start including the Boston Bruins in any trade speculation and rumors regarding Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller out of Vancouver. In a recent article, D’Amico wrote, “If the Vancouver Canucks are indeed willing to trade either of centers J.T. Miller and Elias Pettersson, the Boston Bruins are one of a handful of teams expected to pursue one of the reportedly feuding players.”

Speculation has been everywhere this week regarding the trade buzz surrounding both Canucks’ superstars. It’s unclear how inclined Vancouver is to move either player. Still, several insiders have confirmed that the team is taking offers and seriously exploring the idea of sending one or both out in a blockbuster trade.
Regarding the Bruins’ interest: “They’re talking to them,” an NHL executive source confirmed. As for whether it’s Miller or Pettersson the Bruins have the most interest in, that same source responded:
“I don’t know who for sure, but I know the Bruins want to get deeper and younger up the middle and not older. That seems like Pettersson, but it’s not about who they want; it’s about who the Canucks decide to move on from.”
Admittedly, a second NHL source wasn’t sure there was much to this rumor. “I just don’t think the Bruins are positioned well, cap-wise and roster-wise, to make a trade like this,” that source said. “The only way they pull it off is by creating a hole to fill a hole.”
Who Would the Bruins Be Willing to Move In Said Trade?
Like any team kicking tires on a potential trade with Vancouver, the trick is what that team is willing to give the Canucks in return. The Bruins face challenges in acquiring either. The Canucks reportedly want a top-six center or top-four defenseman, a top prospect, or a first-round pick. Think a Jack Eichel-like package, noted Rick Dhaliwal on Wednesday.
Bruins forward Trent Frederic has been mentioned in trade talks, but insiders suggest the Canucks would require more, potentially Mason Lohrei or Matt Poitras alongside Frederic or Pavel Zacha.
Lohrei, 23, and Poitras, 20, are promising prospects and would certainly be on the Canucks radar if the two teams were talking trade.
