Andrew Copp and Tyler Motte Traded to the New York Rangers

The New York Rangers have acquired Andrew Copp from the New York Rangers. Full details of the trade are not yet known.

As per TSN’s Darren Dreger, “All indications are Andrew Copp is headed to NYR. Rangers may also be working on Tyler Motte.” Copp priced himself out of Winnipeg based on his strong play and Copp was quickly becoming one of the more popular rental options at this year’s NHL Trade Deadline. Multiple teams were in on the forward.

The return isn’t clear yet but it sounded like the Jets were looking to secure a 1st-rd pick for the underrated second-line center who could play up in the lineup if needed. Copp has become quite the offensive player and added that element to his game. He was already a great puck-possession player and play-driver against other team’s top lines. He’s got 13 goals and 35 points in 56 games. He could play on the third line with Barclay Goodrow or the Rangers put Copp on the second line. Either way, it makes the roster a lot deeper.

It is expected the Rangers will also put him on special teams where the Rangers are already really stong. He should be a good cultural fit in New York; his game is geared for the playoffs.

The Rangers also add Tyler Motte from the Vancouver Canucks for 2023 4th round pick. Motte is fast, can kill penalties and will fit nicely on the fourth line.
