3 Oilers Goalies Saddled with Unflattering Label in Latest “All Bust” Team

It was not a good year for Edmonton Oilers goaltenders, and three of them have made a list no one wants to be on.

It was a bad year for the Edmonton Oilers, highlighted by questions in goal where their goaltenders became one of the season’s top storylines. Now, with the 2025-26 campaign over and the Oilers trying to figure out where to go next, it’s become clear that the goaltending needs to be addressed.

Edmonton cannot run it back with the combination of Connor Ingram and Tristan Jarry if they want to improve their chances of competing in 2026-27.

Reinforcing the idea that change is required, Sean McIndoe of The Athletic put together a recent article creating a “2026 NHL playoffs all-bust team.” Three Oilers goalies from this past season were mentioned.

For his two netminders, McIndoe named both Ingram and Jarry as the goalies.

He writes:

“Yes, both. After extensive back-and-forth debate with myself over which guy deserved the spot, it was decided that we needed to recognize both — the guy Stan Bowman bet a season of Connor McDavid’s prime on in a terrible midseason trade, and the guy they inevitably had to turn to when the first guy couldn’t even hold the job.”

Edmonton traded Stuart Skinner and Brett Kulak for Jarry, taking on his full contract and multiple seasons in the process. It was a bet that looked promising at first, but a quick injury derailed Jarry, who was never able to find his form after recovering.

Ingram was picked up in a trade from the Utah Mammoth. The returns were much better there, but he wasn’t just battling opponents, but his past mental health issues and a reputation that he might have been washed up. He did well, ultimately, not having enough against the Anaheim Ducks in the first round of this season’s playoffs.

McIndoe showed some love to a former Edmonton goalie, too, adding, “And it’s not like Stuart Skinner was much better in Pittsburgh’s loss. But opportunity cost is real, and we’re still waiting to find out just how much Bowman’s blunder may have cost the Oilers.”

The other Oiler to make this list included Darnell Nurse on defense. Given his play and salary, no one should be shocked he popped up there.
