Toronto Maple Leafs Sign Mikhail Abramov to Entry-Level Deal

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced Tuesday that they’ve signed prospect Mikhail Abramov to a three-year entry-level contract.

The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced Tuesday that they’ve signed prospect Mikhail Abramov to a three-year entry-level contract. Abramov is currently playing with the Victoriaville Tigres of the QMJHL, where he will remain for the rest of the season.

Abramov, 18, is a Russian forward who was selected in the fourth round of the 2019 draft by the Maple Leafs. He’s really come on this season with 35 goals and leads his own club in scoring by 35 points.

What’s so interesting about his production this season is that it’s not coming because he’s with great line mates or the byproduct of another star. He’s scoring on his own with very little help, scoring 16 more goals than the next best player on the team.

That said, he’s not quite ready for NHL action and won’t join the team this season or for some time.

The Maple Leafs said in a press release:

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced today that the hockey club has signed forward Mikhail Abramov to a three-year entry level contract.

Abramov, 18, has skated in 63 games with the Victoriaville Tigres (QMJHL) this season, recording 76 points (35 goals, 41 assists), which leads the team and ranks fifth among U19 skaters in the QMJHL. In 125 career QMJHL games, the Moscow native has recorded 51 goals and 79 assists. He was named to the QMJHL All-Rookie Team in 2018-19. 

Internationally, Abramov represented Russia at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and recorded a goal and six assists in five games at the tournament, capturing a bronze medal. He also had a goal and two assists at the 2018 World Junior A Challenge. 

Abramov was originally selected by the Maple Leafs in the fourth round (115th overall) of the 2019 NHL Draft.
