The Jonsson-Leaving-Edmonton Rumours Were Complete Nonsense

Turns out that whole story about Oilers goalie prospect Samuel Jonsson maybe heading back to Sweden was basically made up. He shot it down himself, saying he had no clue where the rumours even started. He was just chilling at home when management texted asking what was going on, and his answer was pretty simple — he’d already been planning to come over and start the season, no drama whatsoever.

Jonsson’s now at rookie camp and actually sounds pretty fired up about the crowded goalie depth chart in Edmonton. He said the extra competition pushes him to be sharper every day. He’s also embracing the jump to North American hockey. He pointed out how much faster the game is and how many more shots he’s facing compared to Sweden. According to TSN’s Darren Dreger, Winnipeg’s attempts to trade Connor Hellebuyck are running into a real problem. Teams are calling, but the offers coming in are reportedly terrible.
