NHL Trade Talk Recap: Canadiens, Flames, Oilers, Panthers
NHL Trade Talk Recap Jan.16: Will the Panthers trade Bennett, are the Bruins and Flames buying, is Klingberg a risk for the Oilers?
In today’s NHL Trade Talk Recap (Jan. 16), the Toronto Maple Leafs would love to get an Islanders defenseman, and a current d-man for the team talked about the impression his former coach made on him. The Flyers hold firm on a high asking price for Scott Laughton, while the Penguins’ Erik Karlsson got the message from Tristan Jarry‘s demotion. The Oilers are leaning toward John Klingberg, but is that a risk?
The Hurricanes’ Martin Necas could be the center in trade talks, while the Bruins might be gearing up for a bold move at the trade deadline. Finally, are the Flames and (perhaps) even the Canadiens deadline buyers?

Could the Panthers Trade Sam Bennett?
Although it seems like a long shot, could the Florida Panthers be talked into trading Sam Bennett? His real value lies in the postseason, and a host of teams would be lined up for the opportunity. Nick Kypreos believes that there’s a chance Bennett could be dealt if the Panthers don’t want to pay what will be the going rate in the summer.
Will the Flames and Bruins Be Buyers at the Trade Deadline?
Although everyone expected the Calgary Flames to sell at this season’s trade deadline, the team might be buyers instead. That is unless the bottom falls out of the team’s postseason hopes. Is a solid center on the Flames’ trade checklist?
The Bruins are also said to be ready to take a big swing, despite the fact they’re not a guaranteed playoff contender. Questionable offseason moves and rumors of unrest have led to questions with the team. They aren’t writing off their season however. “We still feel like we have a playoff team here, and we certainly don’t want to jeopardize getting out of the playoffs because we’ve made some moves that may be good for the future but not good for the present,” Neely said to the media Wednesday night at the Bruins Black and Gold Gala.
Can John Klingberg Be an Answer for the Oilers?
The word is that John Klingberg hopes to make a comeback with a contender. And the Oilers seem to be interested. However, one Oilers analyst suggests that Klingberg alone isn’t enough. What else does he believe the Oilers must do if they get the once-great Swedish blue-liner? There is also talk about the future of Jeff Skinner in Edmonton and if the Oilers have been sitting him in an attempt to send a message.

Can the Canadiens Make the Postseason Sooner than Expected?
The Montréal Canadiens are on a winning streak, which has moved them into playoff contention in the Atlantic Division. What might make the Canadians the real deal this season? Can they make the postseason sooner than expected?
