NHL Insider Squashes False Dylan Larkin Trade Rumor

A false trade rumor regarding Detroit Red Wings Dylan Larkin picked up steam but was squashed when the original source denied the report.

This past weekend in the NHL was a wild one. After the Jacob Trouba trade, it appeared to open the floodgates for all trade rumors. One of them that was spreading around X.com was that Dylan Larkin had requested a trade. Yes, that’s right; the captain of the Detroit Red Wings wanted out. However, it turns out that isn’t actually the case. So what happened?

Dylan Larkin “Trade Request”

The person who posted this trade rumor was not even remotely considered a trusted source. However, because he claimed that he would have a trusted insider in Chris Johnston on his show, people started to spread and believe the false report. They have since changed their profile picture and nickname.

Johnston quickly took to X to shut down the false trade rumors. In his post, he clarified that he had no connection to the person who started the rumor and had never spoken to them.

If the rumor had been true, it would have been shocking, given that Larkin is only in the second year of his eight-year contract. The Red Wings captain has shown no signs of discontent in Detroit this season, further supporting Johnston’s assertion that he never shared anything related to these false claims.

Unfortunately, we live in a society where everyone has social media, and it is so easy to be fooled. Just about anyone can “report” news regarding anything, and there will be people who believe it. Thankfully, Johnston acted quickly and shut down any of these false trade rumors.
