Max Pacioretty Joins Capitals on 1-Yr Deal: Boost Team’s Offense

Max Pacioretty, a seasoned goal-scorer, joins the Washington Capitals on a one-year deal, adding firepower to their lineup.

Max Pacioretty, the veteran forward, has found a new home with the Washington Capitals. According to Elliotte Friedman, Pacioretty is set to sign a one-year contract worth $2 million with the potential for an additional $2 million in bonuses. This news comes after the Carolina Hurricanes granted Pacioretty permission to explore options as he approached unrestricted free agency.

The Capitals said in a statement:

“Max has proven to be a consistent goal scorer in his career and has the necessary skill set to play in every situation. We’re confident that he’ll be a great contributor to our team at a cap number that suits our club.”

Unfortunately, Pacioretty’s 2022-23 season was marred by injury. Limited to just five games, he suffered a torn right Achilles tendon, leading to his season-ending shutdown on January 20th. Despite the setback, Pacioretty showcased his scoring ability by notching three goals in those contests.

The 34-year-old forward was originally acquired by the Hurricanes in a trade with the Vegas Golden Knights in July 2022. Prior to his time in Vegas, Pacioretty had signed a four-year, $28 million deal in 2018, with an average annual value of $7 million.

Drafted in the first round, 22nd overall, by the Montreal Canadiens in 2007, Pacioretty has compiled an impressive career stat line. Across 855 NHL games with the Canadiens, Golden Knights, and Hurricanes, he has recorded 326 goals and 319 assists, accumulating a total of 645 points. Additionally, Pacioretty has made his presence felt in the playoffs, contributing 25 goals and 49 points in 74 postseason appearances.

With his signing, the Capitals hope to tap into Pacioretty’s elite scoring and chance-creating abilities, bolstering their offensive arsenal for the upcoming season.
