According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Mason Marchment is signing with the San Jose Sharks. It’s a big deal with a high AAV.
According to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman, Mason Marchment is signing with the San Jose Sharks. It sounds like five years and $7 million per season for Marchment.
Marchment was expected to draw significant interest as the free-agent market opened. According to Darren Dreger, San Jose was viewed as a strong and likely landing spot, while Pierre LeBrun noted that Montreal has shown interest but is reluctant to commit long term due to its young forward pipeline.
The Sharks were the ones willing to step up. For Marchment, it’s a logical fit as he joins a team on the rise with some great young talent.

San Jose is also working to upgrade its blue line, with Darnell Nurse among their targets. However, the Oilers defenseman has not included the Sharks on his list of preferred destinations. Marchment is a top six scoring winger with great size, hands, and an ability to shoot the puck. He’s not the fastest player, and he’s known for embellishing. Still, he’s effective.
The Sharks have plenty of cap space to make moves, but will need to keep some money aside for some of their top young stars.
