Kings Sign Mats Zuccarello to One-Year Deal, Add Erik Gustafsson
The Los Angeles Kings have officially strengthened their roster, signing veteran forward Mats Zuccarello to a one-year contract worth $1 million plus performance bonuses, NHL insider Pierre LeBrun confirmed the agreement on Tuesday, ending speculation that had linked the longtime Minnesota Wild winger to Los Angeles throughout the opening day of free agency.
In addition to landing Zuccarello, the Kings are also signing veteran defenseman Erik Gustafsson, adding another experienced piece to their blue line as the club continues to bolster its roster for the 2026-27 season.
Zuccarello, 38, brings a wealth of experience and offensive creativity to Los Angeles. Known as one of the NHL’s premier playmakers, he spent the past several seasons with the Minnesota Wild, where he remained a consistent producer despite entering the later stages of his career. His vision, hockey IQ, and power-play ability should provide immediate value to a Kings team looking to contend in the Western Conference.
The one-year, bonus-laden structure also presents little financial risk for Los Angeles while giving the veteran an opportunity to chase another Stanley Cup with a playoff contender.
Meanwhile, Gustafsson adds offensive depth from the back end after previously spending time with several NHL clubs. His puck-moving ability and power-play experience provide the Kings with another capable option on defense.

Los Angeles has been one of the busiest teams this offseason, and these additions further reinforce the organization’s commitment to winning now. By adding two experienced veterans on short-term deals, the Kings continue building a roster capable of competing with the Western Conference’s elite.
With Zuccarello and Gustafsson now officially on board, Los Angeles has addressed both its forward depth and defensive depth as it prepares for another run at the Stanley Cup.
