For Maple Leafs, COVID-19 Isn’t Over Nearly Yet: Ritchie, Kase & Holl

For the Toronto Maple Leafs, COVID-19 isn’t over yet. When did Nick Ritchie, Ondrej Kase, and Justin Holl get added to that list?

Although the Toronto Maple Leafs are far from alone in this regard, the team seems to have had a really difficult time in regard to COVID-19. That is, it seems that the entire team had contracted the virus. Obviously, that issue isn’t nearly over yet.

News today from the team is that three more players have been placed on the NHL’s COVID-19 protocols. Those players are Nick Ritchie, Ondrej Kase, and Justin Holl.

Player One: Nick Ritchie

Contracting the virus simply adds to Ritchie’s difficult couple of weeks. He was put on waivers and no team claimed him, which had to be – both being put on waivers and passing through them without interest – a hit to one’s confidence.

On the season, Ritchie now has two goals and seven assists (for nine points) in 33 games on the season.

Player Two: Ondrej Kase

Kase now has eight goals and nine assists (for 17 points) in 30 games this season. He’s been what was called a “Swiss Army Knife,” which is a player who can take on a lot of different roles on the team.

Maple Leafs’ head coach Sheldon Keefe has played Kase in the bottom-six, but has also used him to fill in spots in the team’s top-six as well. Kase has played well wherever he’s played. He’s had a great season with the team.

Player Three: Justin Holl

Justin Holl is the team’s final player to be put into the NHL’s COVID-19 protocols. On the season, Holl has a single goal and two assists. He also leads the team in blocked shots in his 29 games on the season.

His season has been difficult. He was protected during the expansion draft, and has not played up to his usual abilities this season. He’s even been a healthy scratch for several games on the season.
