Jakob Chychrun Confirms He Has Asked to Be Traded by Coyotes

Jakob Chychrun has confirmed that he’s taken the Arizona Coyotes up on an offer to be traded to a contender and is just waiting.

It sounds like a Jakob Chychrun trade out of Arizona is a matter of when, and not if. During a media avail this week, the 24-year-old defenseman admitted that he took the Coyotes up on the offer to be willing to move in a trade and play for a team that has a chance of winning. He noted that he was not excited about going through a rebuild with the team and that even though a trade has not materialized, it is still his wish to be dealt.

Chychrun said that his desire to be traded will not interfere with his efforts on the ice and he will go about conducting business as he always has. His intention is to work hard and be a good teammate he is hoping that he is going to be moved and said he’s had numerous discussions with the organization about the status of that trade request.

He noted the Coyotes and GM Bill Armstrong have agreed to try and accommodate a trade. The defenseman said that he’s been told, “If I wanted to be in a different situation and move on, they were going to be willing to do that and make that happen for me.” The trick is getting back what the Coyotes believe he’s worth. Clearly, that hasn’t happened to date.

This is not all coming from Chychrun’s side. He noted during his conference that the Coyotes actually approached him first about a trade. He said they asked him before the start of last season and then again early on in the year where he was at mentally with the status of the organization and if he wanted to stick around. It was only after he had some time to reflect and speak with loved ones that he told the Coyotes to begin the process of trying to make a trade.

Chychrun noted that his priority was to win and that he wants to have a shot at the playoffs and eventually a Stanley Cup.
