Golden Knights’ Huge Game 6: Do They Dare Switch Now?
The Golden Knights face a key Game 6 decision: stick with their starter or risk a goalie change after Carolina’s bold switch.
Should the Vegas Golden Knights copy the Carolina Hurricanes and swap goalies for Game 6? Short answer: Maybe. Brandon Bussi, coming in for Carolina, flipped the series. He hadn’t played in weeks, but he was sharp, with a low goals-against average, a .922 save percentage, and the calm energy his team needed in a tense series.
That move bought Carolina life. It shifted the momentum and put them in position to close this out. That’s the upside of a bold goalie change — it can reset everything.
The Golden Knights Have a Goalie Who Helped Them Win the Cup
Vegas’ Carter Hart had a rough night. That five-hole goal on the penalty kill and his visible hesitation look like he’s feeling it. Coaches talk about “the next man up,” and sometimes the “next man” isn’t just about skill; it’s psychological. Bringing in Adin Hill as a fresh goalie could relieve pressure, spark the skaters, and force the other team to adjust. It’s a tactical choice that can also shift the temperature of the game. The question is whether it’s worth the risk.
On the flip side, goalie switches are disruptive. Your starter earned the job for a reason; yanking him can wreck confidence and ripple through the locker room. And if the replacement falters, it looks panic-driven. Should Vegas’ coach John Tortorella have given Hill a chance when the team was down 4-1?
The timing of a goalie change matters. It could be risky, but sometimes it’s the exact moment a goalie needs to settle in, not be yanked.

How Should the Golden Knights Make the Decision?
So what should Vegas weigh? First, what’s the evidence? Is Hart visibly off his game? Are rebounds, positioning, or reaction time worse than usual? Second, what is his psychological state? Is he losing his confidence? Third, how ready is Hill as a replacement? Is he the kind of goalie that you can trust to be sharp in this situation? If the answers point toward decline and you have someone who can at least stabilize things, a swap is defensible.
If Vegas feels the series slipping and the starter looks genuinely rattled, make the switch. Do it decisively, with a clear plan. A goalie change for Game 6 could reset momentum like nothing else. Otherwise, the Golden Knights should ride Hart, shore up the defence, and trust the team’s process.
