Oilers Acquire Devon Levi, Solidify Goaltending Tandem With Tristan Jarry

The Edmonton Oilers have addressed one of their biggest organizational needs, acquiring goaltender Devon Levi from the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a 2028 third-round pick while also receiving a 2028 seventh-round pick. Buffalo receives the third-round selection as part of the deal, officially ending Levi’s tenure with the Sabres.

For Edmonton, this move represents more than simply adding another goalie. It solidifies the club’s crease heading into the 2026-27 season with a tandem of Tristan Jarry and Devon Levi, giving the Oilers both experience and long-term upside.

Levi, 24, has long been viewed as one of hockey’s more promising young netminders. While he struggled to establish himself as Buffalo’s full-time starter, he has consistently impressed at the AHL level and possesses the athleticism and technical ability that made him one of the NHL’s top goaltending prospects just a few seasons ago.

Pairing Levi with Jarry creates an intriguing balance. Jarry provides veteran stability after arriving earlier this offseason, while Levi gives Edmonton a younger option who could eventually develop into the club’s long-term No. 1 goalie. The Oilers no longer enter the season searching for answers in goal, instead giving themselves two capable options to share the workload.

Considering Edmonton only surrendered a future third-round pick to acquire Levi, the move carries relatively little risk with the potential for a significant payoff. If Levi reaches the level many projected earlier in his career, the Oilers may have found their goaltender of the future while strengthening their chances of competing immediately.
