Dylan Strome has signed a two-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks and could have a breakout year.

Dylan Strome and the Chicago Blackhawks have worked through whatever was holding back a new deal and the forward has signed a two-extension with the team on Sunday. The Blackhawks made the announcement official on their website and social media pages, welcoming him back, just in time for training camp.

It’s a two-year, $6-million extension, the club announced Sunday. GM Stan Bowman said, “We believe Dylan is ready to take the next step in his career and build off the strides he has made in his first two years in Chicago.” He added that his offensive instincts and creativity adds a lot to the team and noted, “We are thrilled he is now signed and able to join us tomorrow for the start of training camp.”

This was important for the Blackhawks to get done as the team lost Kirby Dach, Alexander Nylander and could without Jonathan Toews with an undisclosed illness. Strome set career highs with 57 points and 20 goals during the 2018-19 season. He tallied 38 points in 58 games in a shortened 2019-20 campaign.

Strome Will Have Heavy Responsibility This Season

Primarily known as a playmaking middle-six centre, he’s a strong passer with a decent shot and he’ll be counted on to produce offense in 2021. He’ll be competing with Carl Soderberg, Mattias Janmark and Lucas Wallmark for the first-line center role to open the season.

The two-year “bridge deal,” will keep Strome a restricted free agent when it the contract expires in 2022. If he plays well, he could find himself timing his next deal just right as the salary cap should start rising again. The righ opportunity and not dropping the ball could mean he cashes in on a much larger deal in two years.
