The Flyers will retain 50% of Gustafsson’s salary, which means the Canadiens will be taking on another $1.5 million in salary. Gustafsson is a UFA this summer.
Gustafson is two years removed from a 60 point season. Has 10 points in 24 games this year. He might be a guy who can facilitate on the power play. He’s got puck moving ability and a great shot. He likely won’t play top minutes as he’s struggled in his own end at time, but he can do a great job on the third pair.
The important part here is that the cost was low for Montreal, who proved everyone right when insiders believed they probably had at least one more trick in their bag of tricks before the deadline closesd.
