Canadian Actor Ryan Reynolds Interested in Buying Ottawa Senators

Reports have linked actor Ryan Reynolds to the possible purchase of the Ottawa Senators. His interest is very real, per sources.

As per a report by People Magazine, Canadian actor and Wrexham FC co-owner Ryan Reynolds is reportedly interested in buying the Ottawa Senators if they go up for sale. According to Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun, “Have been told Ryan Reynolds interest is “real and genuine”. Any interested party would be smart to try to bring him into the deal.”

Reynolds, from Vancouver, is one of the more successful actors currently working in Hollywood. He is known worldwide as the titular character in the ‘Deadpool’ franchise and has starred in a number of major movies. He is one of the highest paid in Hollywood and takes home up to $30 million per film.

Further reports note that beyond him seeing this as a smart business opportunity, Reynolds believes it s important that the team stays in Ottawa. If there is a sale, he does not want to move the franchise elsewhere.

Neither the NHL nor Reynold’s camp would comment on the speculation and a spokesperson for Reynolds declined to comment. That said, he did post an emoji on Twitter hinting that he was interested when a fan asked him if he could buy the team. His hint was that he would give it some thought.

This would not be the first team Reynolds has part ownership of. In February 2021, he and fellow actor Rob McElhenney purchased the Welsh football club Wrexham AFC.” He’s turned that purchase into an award-nominated show and really brought attention to that franchise.

Galatioto Sports Partners has been retained to help with the process of the sale. The late Eugene Melnyk’s two adult daughters inherited the franchise when he passed and the team is in the early planning stages to build a new arena on the Lebreton Flats closer to downtown.
