Breaking: Jet Greaves is staying in Columbus
Jet Greaves avoids arbitration and signs a three-year deal. Can he become the long-term answer in goal for Columbus?
According to Elliotte Friedman, Jet Greaves is signing a 3-year extension worth $5 million AAV. By doing so, he avoids arbitration and stays with Columbus. Earlier this week, Greaves filed for $7.5 million AAV on a new deal. The Blue Jackets filed at $2.8 million AAV. This is common when prepping for arbitration.
There is always a little bit of gamesmanship from the agent and team. If a deal hadn’t been met, the hearing was scheduled for later today, where an arbitrator would decide which number made more sense.

Greaves was handed the starter’s duty for the first time this past season and made the most of it. He posted a 26-19-9 record with two shutouts, a 2.60 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. He also posted a 16.5 goals saved above expected, which was ninth in the NHL. Greaves also was the starter for Team Canada at the 2026 World Championships. In Switzerland, he led Canada, playing eight games and posting a 6-2-0 record with a 1.88 goals-against average and a .920 save percentage.
GM Don Waddell praised Greaves, saying:
“Jet is a high-character, talented and athletic goaltender who has become an important part of our hockey club,” he went on to say: “Our intent always was to get a deal done to ensure he remains a Blue Jacket, and we are thrilled that we were able to do so.”
Greaves will now be staying around for at least three more years, giving the Blue Jackets a locked-in tandem with Elvis Merzlikins.
Locking up their starter, Columbus will now shift their focus to signing Adam Fantilli, who some insiders believe could be a target for an offer sheet. They will also have to focus on getting Cole Sillinger signed before his arbitration hearing next Monday.
