There’s no indication the Chicago Blackhawks are ready to move Patrick Kane and there’s certainly no indication the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks are even discussing this option, but Larry Brooks of the New York Post is suggesting a blockbuster of a deal between the two teams that would see Kane move to the Rangers and a number of pieces come back to the Blackhawks.

Brooks proposes a deal that would see Kane going to the Rangers and something like Kaapo Kakko, Nils Lundqvist, Vitali Kravtsov, and a 2022 first-round pick going back to Chicago. He tossed in some other ideas in the event that Chicago has eyes on other young players but this package is the basic idea behind the blockbuster deal.
He adds that the idea of a “super-line” might be attractive to new Rangers’ GM Chris Drury and that the Rangers have some younger pieces that are bubbling up and could assume some of the spots left by the departing assets in the trade. The super-line would reunite Kane with Artemi Panarin and put Ryan Strome down the middle.

Brooks adds that the two assets he likely wouldn’t want to deal from a Rangers’ perspective are Alexis Lafreniere and Braden Schneider.
Brooks notes that the Rangers do have a history of making big deals and that a move like this would be reminiscent of the old days. He adds that the timing might be right as the window for the Rangers to take advantage of some of their stars at their peak is now. Panarin, Chris Kreider, Mika Zibanejad and Jacob Trouba are all between the ages of 28 and 31 and Kane added to this group would be a huge win in the present. He also wonders if the young prospects the Rangers have will be able to contribute when the team’s best players are still at their most effective. There’s a chance those two roads will never intersect and by the time Schneider, Cuylle, Othmann, Jones and Brett Berard are ready to make a significant impact, the top names on the team won’t be at their best.
Kane Would Have To Want This Deal
Whether the Blackhawks and Rangers ever even talk about this trade is one thing. Kane has to be sold on it before it ever goes down. He’s got a full no-move clause in his contract and he controls where and when he goes elsewhere, should he ever want to.
Maybe the question isn’t so much if the Rangers want to create a Super Line, but if Kane wants to be part of one.
